Meet The Team
Simon Zhang
Simon Zhang has 30 years of business experience in complex technical systems like data networks and CBTC systems. Simon brings a unique blend of entrepreneurial, operational, and leadership skills to APITAL’s executive team. Before APITAL, his career includes eight years of experience on MTA-NYCT CBTC projects as one of the core members of MTA interoperable CBTC standard development and deployment team, five years as System Integration manager in SBL line, South Korea's first driverless subway system, Hongkong Airport People Mover (HKAPM), Disney Monorail System and NYCT Flushing (7) line. He was the Director of the global supply chain, operation, research, and development at Alcatel-Lucent (now Nokia). Simon's vision is to work with the executive team to develop a highly efficient, highly motivated organization to deliver a more advanced digitalized train control system to make better rail transit for the public. Simon holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a degree of Master of Business Administration.
Yankee Chan
Yankee Chan is an accomplished and results-oriented professional highly regarded for coordinating industry-leading projects in the industrial and public rail transit sectors, effectively managing stakeholder and customer expectations, and developing innovative solutions to resolve complex issues. He was one of the core members to start the new generation train control system, Communicated Based Train Control (CBTC). His track record of success included leading the re-signaling CBTC system (7 lines) in Hong Kong, Bid/Proposal leader in Singapore retrofit lines, and Head of China projects for Shanghai line 6/7/8/9/11. He is an attentive, resourceful, and organized team player who continues to excel in Apital’s fast-paced environment. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Computer Engineering.
History & Experience
Apital’s Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) journey started in Shanghai Metro, where the first CBTC system started deployment in 2003; since then, Apital core team members have been working in different CBTC vendors with other CBTC systems in Asia and North America. Together with the industry partners, Apital core members have delivered many successful projects: Beijing Line 4, the first public-private partnership project by Hongkong MTR in mainline China; SBL Line, the first driverless subway line in South Korea; Culver Test Track, the first full interoperable CBTC system test line in MTA; QBL West, the full interoperable CBTC system revenue line in MTA; Flushing line, the high performing operating line in New York City and many more…
